Installing agent manually

In case you need to monitor a system for which there are no packages for automatic installation (like *.deb* or *.msi*), you can install the agent manually.

Getting installation details

  1. In CloudRadar, choose Hosts on the left.

  2. Locate the host on which you want to install an agent, and choose the Host settings button in the Actions column.

  3. Choose the INSTALL AGENT button. In case this button is not displayed: start editing the host settings, select the Inside OS Monitoring with Agent option, and save the setting.

  4. In the Install agent dialog, open the Choose your operating system menu and select the other (manual installation) option.

  5. Use the installation information provided in the dialog as described in the next section.

Installing the agent on the host system

  1. In CloudRadar, copy the provided configuration information about the URL, user, and password.

  2. Log in to the system where the agent should be installed.

  3. Download the archive for the corresponding platform from the Releases page.

For example, for 32-bit version of Linux the name of the archive should be something like this: cagent_1.XXX_Linux_i386.tar.gz

  4. Extract the downloaded archive in a dedicated directory.

  5. Create the configuration file:

    1. Open the file in an editor and check where is the default location of the configuration file for your platform.

    2. Copy the example.config.toml file to the corresponding directory with the following name: cagent.conf

Consider that if you put the cagent.conf file in another directory than /etc/cagent/cagent.conf you must use the -c option when starting the agent to specify the location of this file.

    3. Open the configuration file in an editor, enter the configuration information you copied from CloudRadar, and save the file.

    4. If necessary, modify some options; for example, you can specify the location of the log file.

Note that when specifying paths on Windows system you must use the slash character (/) as directory separator.

  6. Start the agent:

    1. Start a command line tool using administrator account.

Consider that you could also use a regular user account. To do this, make sure the user is allowed to start the agent and modify the log file.

    2. Go to the directory where the agent is installed, and run the agent with the -h option to learn about the available options.

    3. Start the agent with the -s option as a service.

  7. Optionally, check if the agent service is running properly as described in the previous sections for installation on Linux and Windows.

Reviewing information obtained via the agent
